Critical Hits
« on: March 30, 2010, 05:47:51 pm »

So I was thinking a little bit about critical hits. Again.

I'm bored that the only thing I ever shoot at is the eyes and head.

My suggestion reworks the crit table. It makes the devastating shots devastating, but it's much more of a gamble. You can try for the eyes to do crazy damage, but the chances of getting a good crit roll are slim, for example. But if you do succeed, it's devastating. It's safer to go for the legs or the groin.

Here's my plan:

The devastating crits, eyes and head, need a very high crit roll (Say 85+) to get a damage multiplier. If they succeed, they are devastating - damage multipliers, knockout, blinded, etc. . If they roll less than 80, they do normal damage. No bonus effects, nothing.

The limbs only need a reasonable crit roll to do extra damage/knockdown/cripple. They are not as potent damage-wise as eyes and head, but you have a much higher chance of actually causing an effect on your opponent.

Finally, torso and groin have a high chance to wound/damage multiplier/knockdown your opponent, but they perhaps just do normal damage.

Well one unlikely knockdown, 3x dmg or blinding per 7 ap isn't that worthwhile. But I do agree that people aim way too much to eyes/head.

Based on evidence collected from various sources by trustworthy attendees it is undisputed veritability that the land ravaged by atomic warfare which caused extreme change of the ecosystem and environmental hazards can be considered unpleasant, rugged and unforgiving.

Then again, in an FPS game, where do you usually aim?
