Least would stop grid camping.

Not really, NPC's still react faster than players ever will.  I can say from experience that most die almost instantly, so the mercs will still nail them most of the time before they even have a chance to fight or run.

Even if they do get to run a few hexes before the mercs open fire, they'll just die tired.

*sigh* These kind of posts annoy me. I get pk'd all the time and robbed and what not and I don't broadcast it. Stuff happens man, get more outdoorsman skill.
No need to sync every client or anything. I would do it this way:
- Client notifies the server that it's going to enter a map (worldmap -> town/encounter, town part1 -> town part2)
- Server accepts this request if everything is OK, hides the player from everyone
- Client prepares everything it needs to start rendering the map, shows loading screen
- Client notifies the server that we have everything ready, start rendering map
- Server moves the player to new location and keep the clients up-to-date like normally would

This way you are "invisible" to everyone while you have "Loading..." on your screen and you would see everyone in the map almost the same time they see you. Of course, I'm not a game developer, but that sounds kinda OK basic structure for "entering map" event for me.
Opera, I totally agree, but you should put this in the suggestions area.

Now hopefully this whine thread can be closed.

*Heavy dejected sigh*  People calling these posts whine threads annoys me.  Yes we all deal with the noobs in game, and yes the way you post something is as important as the post itself, but the truth is that people need to look more to what is being said instead of how it is being said.  So he came off a bit angry, guess what he and anyone else has a right to be, but the basis of the post is sound, the load lag is exploitable, it causes problems, and in a magic world should be fixed tomorrow.

Opera's idea is epic, I hope that he takes the time to write it up in suggestions, and then I hope he has the patience to look past all the people who will freak out on the post about how he's whining and how it's fine, because they don't want to lose their pk traps.

First off, if your referring to me as a pk'er.... your a retard...
Second off, he has 50% forum speech, he isn't a noob.
Third off, this should be posted in the gang issues.

Uh please read my post slowly.  I didn't say you were a pk'r or that you or he were noobs.  I said that we all (which includes you, and him) have to deal with noobs, and pk's in game, and that bringing it up should not be instantly relegated to "Oh you're just whining, wah, blah."  Stuff is situational, and in this case as I pointed out, though he posted angry, his point was valid.  Other than sighing about yet another person dumping on someone who got shit on in game I made no comment toward or about you.  Also since I don't believe this was a gang fight, and that it was a single person using a pk trap, that it should be put in a section of the forums used for dealing with Gang stuff.  The whole point of the General section is for things that aren't easily put into one set category. 

Way too much of this Ready, Fire, Aim crap going on with people these days, part of why things are so hard to work out on here.

Not sure if this has always been the case or if it is what happens when someone with as low computer encounters someone with a fast computer.
i get into an encounter, and im a pile of goo before the fucking screen even loads, didnt even have a chance to run.
some fag named happymerk pked me near boneyard, so be careful, i think he is just camped there.
