Help with mapper

I am just trying to have fun creating maps and I am having issue with doing the simpliest thing as placing tiles. The manual states you left click on tile, then right click on mapping screen, but when I do this nothing happends.

First you have to create a new map. Press enter, write "*new" (without quotes), then press enter again.

Wow really, the manual says you have to write "!"  >:(

Ok this fixed the issue. But I had to do *new {mapname}

English manual is wrong. Check out the Russian one.
Also expect a lot of frustration. The tool is very primitive.
