It's value is inflated due to scarcity.

Bulldog:
Caps are pretty valuable. You can purchase professions for 4500 (lvl 1+2) each (if I remember correctly), cars are very handy all the time (the most expensive (hammer and highwayman) are probably around 8k caps right now. Their prices vary depending on "demand", same as mercs. Bases.. hell, check the wiki. All in all, caps are always handy. 10k caps is not bad, as Roachor mentioned, caps are scarce in the wasteland and at high demand usually.

I never had more than 200k this season, mostly because I just waste my caps with bases and cars and loot everything else I need.
