How to detect multilog?
« on: September 23, 2012, 07:22:01 pm »

I think there is way to let players detect multilog (help GMs).
For example why not to publish list of players + hashed ip address (with asymetric key) - everybody will be able to detect multilog
Or
Add to player name (e.g. in awareness box)  hash of IP address.

This hash should represent something like Account name (which we know from other RPG games) but it must not be reversible. (for security reasons)
Hash also should be something well memorizable.

But somebody with VPN or proxy will remain hidden, but whats your opinion?

I don't care if someone is multilogging. Well, if you are against someone that is multilogging as hell, that might be unfair. And a way to detect multilog may be helpful for GMs.

primarly it was meant to detect multilog in TC or PVP because i think is most unpleasant.

Also it should be nice to see in log by who i was hit or killed. Because right now you see just "you were hit ... and killed".

They have a screen which shows all alts online along with IP and in-game location.
Gorlak used to have it in a window all the time.

Won't stop proxies.

yes, they have.
But this possibility would add control mechanism available for players even when they sleep / are not available.

Yes proxy/vpn is harder to uncover but this would stop maybe 50%, maybe less, maybe more of multiloging players.

What would players be able to do aboput it? Screenshots of incriminating hashes... I mean of people playing with brothers/roommates?

Yes, that's another issue.
And yes screenshot is kind of proof but would need another examination.

Everything can be abused or bypassed.

Flame, you've been whining about Maripose, now you want to start a pointless thread about dual-log? It has been monitored pretty closely (from my personal experience) the last wipes, now the taboo has been lifted... Perhaps for a reason, what do you think? Although, yes, as far as I know, there are certain restrictions concerning dual-log. Let the DEVs and GMs do whatever they feel like is best, it's just a beta.

There should be a multilog program that allows you to command your own alts as mercs, and maybe set scripts for their mercs as well.
Plus mining options.

Yeah! How about a bot that would lvl up, farm gear and then go TC, when he finds some other bot friends? While they are busy we could do the fun stuff, such as raise kids and read books?

heh :) maybe i was whinning about meriposa but for some reason problem i pointed was solved :) so my "whinning" was successful :) (and you can envy, sooo sad for you)
And as far as I understood, it was not lifted but they decided to ignore it because of inefficient ways to detect this kind of stuff and constant abusing by certain players (see jackies post) so if you dont like my posts / comment just skip them.

maybe you should skip part about bots and just start raising kids and reading books (you will do a great favour to everybody)
