My suggestion list
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:38:29 am »

These are my suggestions so far for this epic game, I love it so far but I want to get the problems that I have seen out there so that the beta can be improved.

1.) The cooldown for first aid is way too freaking long, reduce the experience gain and reduce the cooldown.  Being out of battle should make cooldowns a lot quicker, and moving on the world map should always cooldowns to go by faster.

2.) Healing in general is a drag, It is really boring to wait in one place for 20 minutes just waiting for hp regeneration, this is especially a turnoff for new players who get slaughtered by everything that moves. I dont see why there cant be faster hp regeneration if youve been out of battle for a long time, why first aid cant be used more often, and why moving on the world map doesnt make time go by quicker and as a consequence heal you faster.  I hate waiting around, this is a poor game mechanic.  Beds or prostitutes should be available as heal points perhaps, and/or healing powders need to be cheap to buy, plentiful and easy to craft.

3.) Need the push character command, fallout 2 has it and its great, if a player is blocking the brahmen pen then they can be pushed as opposed to me who was not paying attention and got slaughtered by the npc.

4.) Npcs need to wait longer to loot corpses, right now it is kind of boring whenever any pvp happens or if somebody accidentally gets killed (has a weapon out in NCR, dies in a brahmen pen etc.) that the npc steals all of their stuff, at very least it would be interesting for a scavenger to be able to take advantage of these moments.

5.) Caravans should be a bigger game mechanic, shoveling brahmen shit is fun and all, but for even modest level players the main mechanic for getting a decent paycheck should be a caravan system in which you move in a party from one location to another, the big other end of this mechanic would be PvP, while you are moving you become an encounter for other players on the wasteland, and if they run into you then they may either leave you be or try to loot your hard earned spoils.  A fun mechanic of this would be to invest in a caravan in a group (5 guys invest 2000 caps pooled) and get a return on that investment (say 50%, so you get 3000 back after a successful run).  There would be a limit to this of course, but the thieves would have a big opportunity to take thousands of caps for a successful hijacking.

6.) Consider starting new players in NCR, and offering them a tutorial on brahmin shit shoveling.  Also consider introducing them to crafting (if you took on the healing powder crafting = easier route then you could show a new player how to pick brock flowers and mix them with Xander root and blamo, healing powder.  (and I would hope the ability to harvest these would be made easier too, as in they generate in parts of NCR once and a while, and require no tool to harvest.)

7.) When you enter a random event, have the prompt box come up anyway even if the option to not enter it isnt available, it is annoying when you are not really paying attention because your traveling really slowly, and then before you know it your in combat getting raped to death.  The issue is that the game isnt turnbased anymore, so you need to have these things.

8.) Shopkeepers need to be fixed, items need to stack and any amount of the item over a threshold (9?) needs to be thrown away by the shopkeeper.  Also, the 30 second time-limit needs to be removed and npcs need to be able to multitask talking to multiple people, do you know how frustrating it is to scroll for the entire 30 second time limit before getting to the end of the npcs inventory (right before the item I want!).

9.) PvP without losing all your shit and getting stomped by npcs needs to be made available in some interesting way, im thinking an arena for sparring in New Reno for boxing (no holdspar blackmarket fighting as an option with guns enabled).  This might already be a feature somewhere, I am fairly new so disregard this if it does exist.

10.) Dying is a really harsh penalty in this game, which i think is great. The downside though? dying due to lag is completely unacceptable, sometimes i slide around and teleport back to where I was, if the game is having a hard time maintaining a connection to the server then please pause the action.  I hate getting curb stomped by npcs because my character cant run or fight back.

11.) Dying to npcs is a pain, but you can do more interesting things with this.  If you die to npcs then your loot should end up on some black market caravan.  It would make the game more interesting.  I am tired of seeing traveling merchants who have 8 bullets to sell me and thats it.

Besides this, everything done to this game is really really cool, not user friendly but once you read the wiki and the faqs and talk to people.. the game is awesome. It really encapsulates a lot that makes fallout amazing, however there are some things that dont seem like fallout at all (slow healing for instance) that I think should be worked on and I hope these suggestions are helpful.

Hello, Masterdan. Thought I'd give some feedback =)

1.) The cooldown issue is being addressed already. It was painted in several topics that some tweaks will be applied after wipe - search for Solar's posts. But do not expect a major lessening or replacing cooldowns with something - it was fiscussed many times, and they are likely to stay with us fro good.

2.) Try getting your FA skill to 150. You will see the difference.

3.) +1 on that one... but wait, why do these troll push away these traders? Oh my! It's just a hint on that such a feature needs to be implemented and tested VERY carefully.

4.) NCR guards looting is the only thing that prevents mass ganking there.

5.) Remember, it's still in relatively early beta - and many, many features are not available yet. Devs sure though of caravans, don't you think? Just check Crimson Caravan in Hub and you will see the partially done job.

6.) Wasteland is harsh. NCR is NOT a town specially made for noobs - they just end up there. Travelling there, and learning to survive the hard way is way to go. I am sure tons of people would agree with me.

7.) Do not get distracted? It's no Freecell. Wasteland IS harsh =)

8.) Stackable items were already suggested. Unfortunately, this requires an engine change and thus will most likely not be implemented at least until the 3D stuff is done, tested, and fixed. As for barter fix, expect some news after the wipe.

9.) PvP without losing your shit? What about Suicide without dying? Or having a Bentley without paying for it?

10.) Dying is NOT any close to harsh. Think again.

11.) Already suggested in several different topics and witn different approaches.

It happens to me that I could be an ass just a bit more, and make the following conclusions:

a) you are retalively new to the game, or don't play often - welcome =)
b) you did not use search before posting - a shame.
c) you didn't read suggestion rules before posting - a SHAME!
d) you do not realise that one, thoughtfully made suggestion (with calculations and formulas and explanations) is worth more than all the "I want red cookies, reed cookies are fun and don't break the game balance" ones.

Please do not take it personally. I just want people to think before doing stuff =)

Dixi.

P.S. (EDIT)
I said Crafting cooldown is sooo boring :P

Your marvelous contribution to this topic beats the OP's awesome ideasby all means! Sensei, would you please tutor me in forum flooding?

Okay, I am a mean miserable ass, so what?

Not being familiar with every suggestion that has ever been made on these forums is not something I am willing to apologize for, these are the major points in which I feel the game would benefit the most from changing personally, I dont really care for your tone, as much as "formulas" could improve my suggestion (it wouldnt) I believe that core gameplay mechanics are the main area that needs to be tweaked for this mmorpg as the actual foundations and engine are actually already quite impressive.

3.) Push was meant for players only, npcs do not need to be pushable.

6) Also, yeah the wasteland is harsh but that is no excuse for not having a tutorial or a relatively easy starting path. Every fallout game starts you in an area to teach you how to play the game and leads you progressively into areas of more danger with the wasteland getting higher level npcs the further away from the starting point you wander.  Currently a new player is liable to die within the first 10 minutes and then is spawned somewhere random on the map, the entire system irks me as a way to cause the vast majority of new players to balk from playing the game simply do to some ridiculous hurdles that you have to jump over. What the game should strive to do instead is get new players into the game and run them through some of the general features of the game, and by the time they finish the tutorial they should have some idea of how to craft, they should have a tent, and they should understand how to acquire money.  This is the goal of any "game", if the MMORPG requires a player read a wiki or a manual before that player is able to enjoy the game, then the game is not self contained or adequately complete.  This game isnt complete, but if it ever is to be completed this issue needs to be resolved.

9.) Your reading comprehension needs work, you criticized my point number 9 saying that PvP without losing your things is such a crazy suggestion, however even in the original fallout games there were arenas in San Francisco and New Reno in which the player could fight opponents until they were unconscious, and the result of the fight would not result in a death of a character.  To belittle my suggestion like this without actually addressing what the suggestion was for and somehow misunderstanding it as some plea to remove the loot dropping penalty of general PvP, well shame on you--Read Closer.

10.)Also, you say Dying is not harsh. Saying that Dying was harsh was not a criticism of the game, I even complimented that aspect of the game explicitly in the next few words, however for you to try and critique my point that Dying is harsh in this game compared to other MMORPGs is rediculous, very few MMORPGs have ever tried penalties as harsh as losing every single item you have every-time you die, ESPECIALLY in low levels where you have to spend half an hour scooping poop up only to be killed by a pack of wild dogs that you otherwise would have been able to avoid if the game was not constantly teleporting you backwards.

Forum rules you accused me of not reading:
This board is for posting and discussing suggestions. It's very important to adhere following rules, otherwise suggestions won't even be taken into consideration:

1) Each suggestion needs to be well written and described. It should be as much as detailed as possible - something more than just 'idea'.
A)These are specific tweaks to specific features in the game. As far as suggestions go, there is nothing wrong with the level of generality I have used, Its not like I said "Add more guns!" or "You should add new cities".  No, this is not an issue.

2) Possibly each suggestion should have own thread, but if you see similar thread to your idea, you should rather post there. If you just think your idea is better and you want your own thread, then you better post it in existing thread anyway.
A) These are small tweaks, this rule applies to larger suggestions. These are just changes to existing systems, not the implementation of anything significant.  Still, they would make a big difference.  This rule is not applicable.

3) Feel free to use polls here. It may be interesting to see the overall community reception. Polls are also indicators for us, developers whether suggestion is worth to be considered, or not. Also threads activity is some sort of indication - but if it's due to spam/flames, such suggestion is on the straight way to be just ditched.
A) Not really relevant.

Ok, I think that's all...Remember, the better something is written, the better reception is.
A) I've made my points concise.

The reason why npcs loot people's equipments in ncr is because players used to work in pairs to rob people there. One shot someone, guards shot the shooter but his friend looted everything.

8.) I'd sign for that. Or the shopkeeper should lose interest with the raising amount of items of one kind.
Stacking is very good idea.

11.) Dying to npcs is a pain, but you can do more interesting things with this.  If you die to npcs then your loot should end up on some black market caravan.  It would make the game more interesting.  I am tired of seeing traveling merchants who have 8 bullets to sell me and thats it.

Very nice. However, there will be also people raiding caravans - gaining the equipment too easily. Well-armed caravans are also a very easy source for miniguns.

The reason why npcs loot people's equipments in ncr is because players used to work in pairs to rob people there. One shot someone, guards shot the shooter but his friend looted everything.

I saw a pair working in Hub, one provoked the trader and lured him to a unsecured area, where his pal blasted him away.

That was a very well described suggestion list, but don't get your expectations about suggestions too much, though.
The chance to get things implemented is very slim and depends on current workload of devs.
And it seems they have an awful lot to do at the moment.
