Im sorry if some feels it was unfair. I picked 3pm London time since I belived it would give everyone interested a chance to bid. I figured by then everyone would be awake and not getting ready to go party at night.

Also, if I had granted the victory to someone who posted past the closing time, someone else would have cried unfair.

Exactly and thats the problem. I can wait till 15:59 (lets say auction ends 16:00) and then bid, meaning that other dont have chance.
In auctions there is always +some_time_to_end after the last bidder.

Future auctions I hold, bids will get a +15min to closing time. Meaning, auction ends at 4, A bids at 3 59, closing is set to 4 14. then if B bids at 4 14, it is set to 4 29 and so on. Hopefully everyone will consider that fair.
