cant connect

Hello i am totally new here and i was a fun of fallout 1 n 2 so i thought i will give this a try. my problem is that i cant connect if i press play i get a random picture and if i press ESC i get a message saying "Executing start script failure". If i try to update i get the connecting to update server but nothing happens after that. i have the master.dat and critter.dat files and so on and cant figure out how to fix it :/ any ideas?

like i said while the server was up update was doing nothing but saying connecting to server... and nothing more i read the threads from the first answer but i didnt really found a solution or anything.. i am using this http://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,22146 so dunno whats wrong really :/
