Need help with quest

Some guy in the Maltese falcon asks you to find him a tape recorder.
I've looked around for some time and didn't find it.
Does anyone know where it is?

I'm pretty sure that "quest" has either been just a joke, since he seems to be on drugs or something, or unfinished. Either way, no, there is no tape recorder.

How is he on drugs?I didn't notice anything abnormal about the guy...except that he was crying .
