Use for rare / unusual / useless / shit items
« on: March 12, 2012, 06:42:35 pm »

Many of you probably have a locker in their tent / base, which contains alot of Television Dinners, boxes of noodles, all kinds of useless crap. I'm here to suggest some USE for them, and also eliminating another boring problem.

NPCs like this are bad:

Why? Because they don't have any dialog at all. They're just your generic townfiller NPCs with no use.

That's what this suggestion is about to fix.

My suggestion is, that some kind of a dialog window for dull NPCs in all towns, guarded and unguarded would be introduced, a dialog where you could sell your useless crap for citizens, wastelanders and travellers all alike. Let's assume that there would be an NPC near the garage in NCR, who would buy your television dinners / boxes of noodles / flints with 20 pieces of 10mm AP. That would make it slightly worthwhile to visit that NPC.

Now let's add another NPC, in Redding for example. She would be interested in the same items as the previous guy, but would offer 28 12 gauge shells instead.

Third NPC in Den would be interested in the same items yet again, but would offer one piece of jet instead.

Fourth NPC in ******** would give you ** caps for your scavenged goods.

See how it goes? This kind of a solution would bring life to many dull NPCs (but some of them kept intact, this isn't exactly Planescape: Torment, atleast not yet.), while giving reasons to player to actually search for them, and actually leave their caves one day.

Having multiple NPCs in different cities would make them a bit worthwile to visit, possibly for exploration, possibly for earning, possibly for just getting rid of your crap, which wouldn't have any other use.

Best results, combine this suggestion with this and this, and cities would have some life!

Well I honestly would like to see this in the game. I also suggest different "reactions"/dialogue line according to different reputation levels, but it's obviously a very low priority work.

we would need ways to gather them besides just spamming alts though.

Spam alt, get 10mm Ap etcetc.  I bet you a thousand dollars U.S. someone would do it.

Quite true. If this suggestion is implemented, maybe "random useless items on newly created alt" feature should be deleted.

Nothing useful can be given to new characters. Having 50 of any ammo on a new character would just mean lazy players spamming new alts for television dinners.

20 caps per alt seems not worthy for grind alting, as you can get easily more caps with quest.

People are insane.
20 10mm ap is not 20 caps worth.  10mm ap is actually very rare, as nobody likes to craft them thus they are more valuable than base price says.

fast relog will make alt spamming extremely easy as well.

Maybe not this era, but I used to gather it pre-wipe to at least get some damage in with my leader with p90.

Once all is fixed im sure 10mm ap will be viable once more.

No in serious things. PvE is not so serious because they can use all weapons in proper build those weapons can be deadly to stupid npc's :)

P90 is not powerfull like it was in last session after few fight with anybody p90 burster will ragequit to another more powerfull char and cheaper even :)

I have better option:

Instead of ammo/caps/other itmes, NPC could rise the reputation.

It will help in current barter system and could solve bad karma problem on pvp alts.

This can be added on other NPCs with the same idea, some giving items, some giving reputation.

This.

Good idea and it fits into the Fallout universe.
