Dropable Containers and more
« on: March 03, 2012, 01:14:53 pm »

Before this gets flamed for being something that will turn this game into hello kitty online I would like to say to those players, eat me, go back to your personal base and play with your 7 containers.'

And yes I understand this has probably been posted before, but I think it needs to be seriously looked at.

I think we should have dropable containers. Ones that can be picked back up (or packed up) while empty and then replaced wherever.  I mean how reasonable is it that people just store all their most important items on the ground around a tent in the middle of nowhere? I know that there was a bug that made some lockers in inventories that could be dropped.  But if this were actually implemented I believe it would not only make item management more... manageable and also reduce some stress on the server by reducing tent clutter.  Obviously there would be some people that would take it to extremes and have hundreds of lockers, but that is negligible compared to the benefits of being able to have placeable lockers.  We could use the repair skill to pick up empty lockers and replace them with either drop and repair a packed up locker box, or just drop and it puts a locker on the ground.  These would need either a vendor to sell them, or some way to craft them.

So in a nutshell here is what I propose:

Wooden box built with 50 repair and 20 wood + 2 metal parts, or bought for 1000caps
Footlocker built with blue print, 100 repair and 30 metal parts, or bought for 2500caps
Locker built with blue print, 150 repair and 50 metal parts, or bought for 5000caps

Comes in a packed form (a box) that is dropped then repaired to set up
Then repaired while empty to repack

My second proposal is to allow for certain harvestable resources (with very limited supplies) to be dropped in the same way as the containers, things such as tree saplings, fruit plants and fibres.  This idea may be rejected as unbalanced, but I think if it were properly managed, these cheap and relatively easy to obtain resources would add some much needed customisation to the tents.  Though the new ranger hut is great, more needs to be done

Dropable wooden boxes? Sounds nice and I see no actual downside to this. Sure, people could spam the ground in cities with them, but if they would be sell-able to quest-npc's like Spears are for 20 caps then players would clean the city to earn easy money and thus no possible problems.

I'm not sure about lockers. They are pretty heavy and it's silly to carry that around in your pocket. However, wooden boxes are light and I would LOVE to have a few boxes in my tent instead of the ground covered with different types of ammo in separate stacks and broken armours and stuff. Drop it in a box and it's nice and clean.

Harvestable resources are a big no-no. It's easy enough to find fruit trees. No need to have them grow in your tent.

As of harvestable resources...

Since we are able to buy our own mine, there should also be possibility of buying own tobacco farm.
And maybe tweak some things to create a farmer profession 8)

I think the containers should've been also able to be picked up. With Science, for example.

Well for lockers I was thinking something along the lines of a flat-pack box a bit like you get from Ikea, stand up lockers might be a bit too far, but footlockers shouldn't be an issue.  Of course, lockers would have to be substantially heavy, possibly even too heavy for most characters, but all we are really talking about is a couple of thin metal sheets bolted together, easily carried by a person who can apparently carry more than 15 rifles in their backpack :P

I like that. +1

IMO the only containers people could acquire should be the primitive containers with the wooden box being the biggest.
These are things like pots, crates small wooden shelves - the kind of things you would expect to find in a tribal map.

The footlocker is a nice idea,
also you could move a locker with a car quite easily so if it was possible a script could be thrown in where having a car key in hands would place locker into that cars trunk if that car is on map. (probably not doable)
Don't have key in hand/car on map = Vendor: You don't have any way to transport that item.

That seems a bit too complicated, I think just a heavy carry weight would be enough
