SKIN editing
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:32:17 am »

ok so we all know new skins can be implemented - but first someone needs to edit all the animations - thing is a few only know how to do that ...

can a Dev or someone that knows post a guide (maybe too much said just how to get base files , the parameters frames must have etc etc the more info the better ofc ;])

...who said one person need to make whole set , if a 20 willing people would be found then a months work can be done in 1-2 days ;]

This is probably what you look for. The project has been long dead anyway. The reason is that Fonline is going to be partly converted into 3d in a nearby future. A lot of 3d models are needed though, and everyone can help with this. Here you can find more:

http://www.fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/3d_graphics_development_tracker
http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=884.0
http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=670.0

As far as the devs say, we should expect some official info soon.

EDIT: If you would like to help making 2d animations (not only for Fonline), NMA modding section is probably the best place to get involved :-P.

Yes, I was about to say the same. NMA's modding section is the place to go if you want to make new skins. FOnline developers are not involved in their creation, all they do is importing existing one is the game for now, afaik. So make your skin (full set, which means with all weapons + all armors), post it on NMA, and we import o/

w8 w8 ... so Fonline is gonna use 3d ? for characters aye ?
so basicly all player skin are just temporary and would be replaced in the end ?
for 3d lacking only models or endine too ?

question : why you wanna use 3d ? i think 2d served Fallout quite well :S

One complete 2D character has like 10.000 and more images.

I think it's rather 20.000, Brother Soifran painted 4500 pictures to do the CA black dude.

yea but realy whaty you would need 3d models for? just hair cut?

you aint gonna add new weapons or anything i belive...

and long , short bold hair cuts would be enough , so there would be just need to make bold one and maybe some new female hair and thats all - i think it should still be way easier then modyfing engine and modeling all weapons /armors in 3d

Attero, 3d is better, because it doesn't take as much resources as 2d (3d is planned for characters and weapons only). 20 000 pictures for ONE character... and how many characters are in-game now? About thousand i suppose...

I dreamed about midlleaged men with "original" nick with long hairs in onehand hold supercatleprod on second hand sniper rifle.

Behind neck 2 mutants with some bigugns...or energy.

and some friends with him.

You may meet me in wasteland.......sure personallly.

Its all comix style, its main thing why i played this game.

If you want 3d play - play Runescape...etc. ;)

Nope, it wouldn't  :P. Actually even something as simple as a new hair style means a whole new model to develop. The number of pictures that needs to be drawn for this purpose = number of weapons * number of armors * number of actions that you can perform (shoot, walk, die, etc.) * number of directions (6) * number of frames per one animation (10 - 15)  ... eventually it's something like 10k pictures to draw, only to make a new hair style. If only one person does it, it takes years to complete. With this system, adding anything new is nearly impossible. The game looks like a clone invasion and nothing can be done with it, unless 3d models are implemented.

As far as I know, Fonline engine already supports 3d, all is just the matter of making a model that is as close to the original as possible. Some people already work hard on that  ;):

yea i kinda know why  world moved to 3d ><

but what you say is only true if you wanna add new stuff and i dont see why that would be done...
Only for hair styles ? thats stupid people can live without them - and i dont belive they would add new armors / weapons - so i dont see need for 3d models.

Well unless you want to only use bluesuits for the rest of your life we are going to need new models, also once the devs have the capability to create something new maybe they'll start using their imagination and add some new content.

Hair styles, skin colors, armor variations, playable races - all of it can be done only by 3d.

Adding new armors/weapons is certainly an option, since it's quite easy if you don't need to do it frame by frame, but it's not the point. The main benefit is that all the items that ARE already in game can be fully animated this way. In other words, a combat shotgun will stop looking like a hunting rifle, and a cattle prod will no longer be a club  ;).

you forget that with the amount of work that the game needs and fact that devs do it in their free time (and for free) - there is hardly time for migrating to 3d.
alo not many can do 3d modeling but i belive anyone can do copy paste and that whats basicly 2d editing is...

also 10k pictures 10k pictures... its bullshiet ... combat armors , power armors all have same animation coz hair si covered there is no need to modify those, if you would go for bold guy then the leahter armor animation are already there , just need to do metal . jacket and blue suit ones - about half...

and if you would want to add some base skins that wouldnt use bluesuit as naked - all you need is to edit the base animations and the rrest is same as for normal character as armor overrides the cloth...

but finally if you say "we wanna migrate to 3d" then none will be interested in puting effort with making new 2d skins as to in future their work to be replaced .....
