Player run shops are a must!
« on: January 25, 2012, 07:15:05 am »

This economy will never work. So long as there are no player run shops. We will all need to use alts, we will all need things that are completely unavailable in the game from time to time because merchants don't buy dick and they don't have dick.
There is an ever growing need for specialists, and there are barely any incentives to become a specialist.

Our friends are all in different time zones, work 40+ hours a week, have a life outside of grinding new toons because the last 20 didn't work out. We need player run shops, because economies are driven by one persons surplus being used to purchase that of another person's. That is why we need caps, as a store of value to trade for goods, and services.

This economy is busted because you have caps leaving the system by the thousands and coming in by the 100's. Thus every one is dirt poor. Communist poor. We need player shops so we can be rewarded justly for our efforts. Obviously a lockpick toon cannot use all of his schematics, or a doctor all of his medicine, thus player shops would allow players to be able to trade while away from the game, allowing the economy to continue to grow and flourish even while player population is low.

Either that or we need an in-game craigslist

Players run their shops already by shouting what they sell or buy in NCR or posting their offers here, on forum.

I had played some time ago in mmorpg where all cities were full of players shops. I dont want FO be like that as FO is not kind of game like that.

I know that currently there is a huge lack of caps, but I think that this is what devs wants.
To get some item you need to trade another item as no one is printing or creating any money in postapocalypse world.

Is fine as it is like they say.

If you want to earn some caps do some quest or try to find some rare blueprints as these are items that people/gangs would spend they monies for. Just need to fit to the economy.

It would be fine as it is if trade would be safe.
And there's still the need for the buyer and seller to by online in the same time and place.

There could be one npc in each town that would trade item for item. I bet it could be made with a simple but very, very long conversation.

Something like an auction house. You go to one npc, give him your laser rifle or whatever you want to sell, you state your price, the npc is unstealable or just move the items from his inventory to a container outside the map and then another player can talk to him and see what he has got to sale in a form of a list with prices from A to Z or just open his barter window and make it work like a normal barter screen (maybe this is better as you can see the items DET%). Then, if you buy something caps are transferred to the seller's bank account. Cool? Cool.
