It was a Hitchiker's Guide reference in FO2, in the Crashed Whale Encounter.
I started a rumor on the old Interplay Boards (or Unwashed Villagers board) that you could give them to Algernon in the basement of New Reno Arms and he would eat them and be cured of retardation.

I guess they changed Petunias to Daisies.
