Campfires and Crafting

Durandal:
First off, I noticed that you can make certain items with a "Campfire". Is it possible to make one near your tent?

Crafting.

I plan on making a gunsmith, I know I need 1500 Caps (Though I'm not sure how to get that [Easily]).

I also heard that you need schematics for certain items. For tier one gunsmith items, do you need schematics?

I can answer the campfire question, just use wood on the little campfire in front of tent. If you do it right it's replaced with a bigger campfire with a cooking pot-looking.

No idea on the rest
