Is this just a respawning training area?

I killed everything but couldn't unlock the door to 1 room. So is that just it?

Come back with a lockpick and try again?

Also I got a dialog option for completing some quest with poison plants from the guy that gives basement access in Cathedral. And I had not done any such quest.
I'll post that in Bugs.
