Game event idea
« on: February 15, 2010, 06:07:43 pm »

i thought id put in here a new thread for a possible event much like NCR but in a bit of detail as i have thought this through somewhat im hoping people others will read this and add their thoughts and see if we all can't help think up the next event and have it planned out to help the admins/gm's with sorting it and running it if they are willing to do so

i thought having the next event staged at an alt of the hub as the main entrance into the hub main area is fenced off but then also you have access to other parts of the hub map like where the blades are and the like so actually having a defence of that area would be all over as would an assault as there are many areas to attack

as for respawning depending on which map you died on would depend on where you respawn so an all round assault where actual bodies (players or npc's) per map would be reduced
on top of that you would possibly have people calling for help on other maps for defence (do not know but would radios actually work for that part?) so if 1 map had the defence either taken care of (that wave) or was easily under control players could move to the other maps to help 'fill the gaps' where the enemy wouldbe trying to breach the defence
the defence would be more of a skirmish than an organised defence but then would need no map altering only weapons and armour placing for players to collect for the defence

as for the armour/weapon placements have them a little more spread out like 3 hexes between each item and in an open area close to the respawning point

the assaulting army could be just simple raiders who would then have mercs among them and a mismatch of weaponary so you have up close fighters with long range and machine gunners all trying to kill maime and murder you

as for the players i would turn off pvp option it would at least stop all pkers from trying to ruin it by just being there

ok well thats the basics for the idea for maybe an event if it is at all possible to be set up and run on that towm map type having move from different map types

again i would limit the number of players who can go to the event but how limited would it have to be? so any feedback or anyone want to contribute to the idea more than welcome

Since when is fallout a WWIII simulator with thousands of players defending hordes of enemies?
The ncr event was ridicolous and ignored pretty much everything what fallout maked a great game, but this is even worse...

Yeah, this is worse, but the NCR event werent that bad. Looks like you kinda 100% isolated from everything that has the name ''PvP'', ''Kill'', ''Shoot'' in it and know only RP (Wich mostly is crazy sexual madness).

i thought about the idea of defending the hub as well, and having different areas to defend from some of the different factions, ex, the enclave would come from the north and will attack the market of the hub,
the raiders will make a concentrated effort to take itthey would come from the east and the south,
a remnant of the master's army will have regrouped led by a new "master" trying to conquer the hub and set up vats in its basements to continue the production of mutants,
the high level players will defend the north part of the hub from the enclave as BOS representatives in Brotherhood armour, the captains would have power armour,
the ncr and hub police would take the heights and defend it from the supermutants in combat armour, the captains would wear ca mk2,
the south and east would be defended by a division of gun runners armed in metal armour, the captains carrying combat armour.
the defending players would have to stop the town from being overrun, in each area,
except for the main area there would be several barricades that the players would have to defend, if they fail the attacking faction will break through and cause havoc on the flanks of the high level players.

I don't do that much RP, since there isn't barely anyone who wants to join, without the right "goals" it's becoming boring.
And yes, I was never into those townfights etc. because I find it ridiculous that some random "gangs" have better equipment, manpower etc. than the rest of the wastelands cities, it fucks with the fallout canon massively, and now those "Massive Slaughter" events fuck this thing even more.
I'm sorry to sound too harsh, but I lost all my respect towards that when I saw that video.

And to be honest, I never saw a single case of sexual madness like you describe it.

i like the idea very much but would it be possible to do without it lagging out if the number of players weren't restricted and to those who do not like rp fine but in life if something threatens YOUR very excistence then YOU would band together with friends and enemies alike for your very survival so why not add that part into a game? if you don't like it is fine don't participate as it would be an event and not part of the gameplay so stay away and let those who WOULD enjoy it enjoy there game time (to those who hate the idea of town defences and the like)

any more ideas?

Since when is fallout a WWIII simulator with thousands of players defending hordes of enemies?

Since in Fallout canon there are armies defending against other armies. NCR army has several divisions, including rangers, to protect a State that will have 700,000 inhabitants in two years, in 2240. Vault City is defending against raiders, Enclave had to fight in several places - against hordes of mutants in Mariposa, for example - and is willing to extend its territory, to conquer the south of the Wasteland. If you think Fallout's history does not include defenders against hordes of enemies, well, sorry but you are wrong. Lots of players are here for PvP or PvE, and battles fit the canon. So yes, Fallout can be, sometimes, a "WWIII simulator with thousands of players defending hordes of enemies".

The blades are in Boneyard =p Are you talking about Hub or Boneyard ?

There wasn't a single evidence in FO1/2 that the capital of NCR itself was being attacked by hordes of enclave soldiers, hell the enclave tried to be covered, especially in 2238 they just had navarro and some little observation points. They never would attack such a huge town directly. The only town which suffered from such "invasions" was vault city, and even there were just a few commandos of "raiders", not a fucking army. And I don't know which "hordes of mutants" in mariposa you mean, there were 3-4 dead enclave soldiers at mariposa, not hundreds. Don't get me wrong, of course there is fighting, but not in such huge sizes.

Well, now you say Enclave is the problem - I have to agree with you, Enclave in Fallout's canon would certainly not attack NCR, that's why NCR Defence #1 was only an event : Out of the timeline, out of the main FOnline storyline (Tandi's death had no incidence on the rest of the game). It would have fit perfectly if it was a raider "army", for example, and maybe we'll do it next time. But for the first one, Enclave was easier to handle for us (Not to bother about skins, for example). About Mariposa, yes, Enclave left only one squad, but that squad has been wiped out, since mutants were really outnumbering the Enclave soldier. Vault City maybe does not have a big army, but that's exactly why they need help against the raiders. Again, "such size", it was 200 vs 200, I don't think it's such shocking. When Vault 13 was attacked by the Master's army, approximately a thousand people died, I think. Well this discussion has became a pointless argument =P But I have to say, yeah, maybe Enclave does not fit in invading NCR, but in Fallout's storyline many armies shown up, and many locations were invaded. That's why this battle shouldn't be that shocking, nor taken seriously - it's an event, made for fun of the participants.
