God of Thunder:
Hey,
sometimes I wonder, why do people play computer games at all... Looking at it from rational point of view it is just a waste of time and making something that doesn't have any sense, just clicking and taping keyboard...
However, I do, so there must be some reason :P
Grommok:
Taking it from that point of view, everything is pointless, since at a certain point we all must die.
I play computer games (and games in general) as an hobby/drug.
If it was an hobby, I would be one that makes it as a professional.
If it was a drug, i would be a junkie in a costant state of overdose.
;) ;D ;D
Just jokin'. I play them because i like 'em.
God of Thunder:
But not everybody plays comupter games, what makes some people playing? Are they (we :P) somehow different?
Surf:
Why do people watch movies? Why do people go to the theatre? Why do people make/listen to music? Why do people collect stuff? Why do people draw, paint?
Because it is fun/entertaiment. Nothing more, nothing less. The same applies for videogames.
Also - you may change your threadtitle. No one can get a single clue about what this "Discussion" is about from the title.

People play games and do other "senseless" activities to have some fucking fun. The "capitalist society" tends to separate fun from work (otium and nec otium), searching for productivity and efficiency.
However, it sometimes happen that the very logic of the nec otium (that is, the search for maximum productivity), which is after all dominant in our society, gets into our recreational activities. This happens in FOnline for example, where players tend to create alts for every single activity, for maximum efficiency. This is usually when the game becomes "boring".
