Help meeting up with my buddy.

Me & my mate just started, but we want to meet up with each and travel together in a party type of thing on the map. But we don't know how..

Can anyone explain how to?

Just meet up in any town (for example NCR or Hub) and tell your friend to tag you. He can do it by pressing the mouse key over your character's body and choosing the picture of an arrow. Then you can leave the town and your mate has to choose "follow" when you are leaving. Remember, you need to have at least 2 charisma.

Cheers for that, also I accepted a quest, is there some sort of quest log in which I can keep track?

You can check the status on your quest in the 'pipboy' (press 'p')

but it doesn't work for all quests :(
