Nah, GM abuse is fun (Rusty for the win!). You never know when and what GMs will do. GM abuse is actually more fun than those events.

Check your message box, sometimes the guards will say something like "Hey [your name], looks like [thief's name] is interested in your stuff". If that happens, feel free to blow out the brains of the thief.
