So your actions change this then?  I joined Duty and totally destroyed freedom within 20 minutes,(my first playthrough i had it on novice :C) and at the end of the game an emission fucked everything up.  So in theory, if I joined freedom and fucked up Duty, there would be no Emission disaster?

Or are the endings just random?

Dunno either. In "Shadow of Chernobyl" I've never decided to join the Freedom or the Duty. Simply, being a loner gives you more opportunities.
But maybe because of quests?
