Selecting your own gang names

That isn't the question. That could work both with chosen names and names from a list.

The only question is should names be chosen freely or from a list, nothing else about the gang system.

My answer is no, should be taken from list, because it would make another big work for moderators/GMs with deleting retarded names like "Look! Boobs here", or even you could later see "Developers are taking error"

When do you actually see other peoples clan names?

I've only been playing a week and haven't seen anything indicating people are playing inside clans or as groups, the only thing i can think of is town control but then i never visit unguarded towns much, so why would it be a drain on resources for the people deleting names if no one found out about the ridiculous names?.

This game needs a +15 mature rating ^^

I say no.  Then you'd have The Green Hand, TheGreenHand, Th3 Gr33n Hand, etc. etc. etc.  It'd obviously be much worse with big gangs.  It'd be hard to tell if your gang is really taking a town.  Also, how would moderating work?  Delete the base somebody just paid 130k for?  Or change the name to "Generic Gang 83"?
The name list wouldn't be a problem if you could have more than one base per gang.
