Regarding "melee damage"

Is it just normal damage added like 5 melee damage is 4 more when hitting someone, or is there some sort of multiplier?

"Note: This perk actually increases character's parameter "melee damage" by 2 points, which is added to Maximum damage value only (not to overall melee damage as it written)."
The emphasis on the character's parameter "melee damage" part

It just adds +2 to max damage, that's all.
So instead of 1-10 damage, you'll deal 1-12.
