I'm thinkin a merc with about 110 hp, uses pistols or shotguns and can FA/DOC your mercs or you. The main reason I like this idea is because getting knocked out at -2 hp with 5 mercs wouldn't be such a bad thing - assuming your medic makes it over and heals you before you either get shot again or the medic gets killed.
The merc fa and doc commands would have to be exclusive to only medic units. It wouldn't be useful to have 1 medic rush to heal you and have 4 other mercs running over as well.

not sure about ur status but i think a medic merc of some kind would be a nice touch to the game

if ur a merc leader then theres really no point in having one since its easier for you to be a medic and heal your 5 mercs while they fight for you, but for fighters its a good adition

Also when your mercs have successfuly kicked everyones ass and your at -10 hp while all your mercs just sit there scratching their own unscarred asses, while your sitting there bleeding to death, is really, really frusturating.  Medic merc would be great addition, and a new command for first aid skill to target on others.  (medic cooldowns should be displayed somewhere on screen or pipboy btw)

this sounds awesome

To be honest, I don't even mind of said medic mercs can't attack at all, doing first aid would make it so slavers/merc leaders aren't the first one to be shot, making it all more interesting

Fallout tactics has 1-6 characters controlled by one player like you control your character in FOnline. This means, you can have a repairsman, a doc, a EW sniper, a BG guy, etc and control them fully (they all have their own skills - outdoorsman, repair etc, so if one dies you can use your other character), this includes using their AP the way YOU like, do aimed shot when you like, shoot the target who you like etc. etc. FOnline mercs are controlled by AI, and can be minimally controlled.

This would only lead to the disappearance of tagged First Aid/Doctor skill and to powerbuilds becoming even more powerbuilds. Sorry, but I'd prefer player medics instead of medic mercs ;)

Mmmh... No, I don't think so. Does mercs have lead to diseappear of combat skills? Dogs to diseappear of Outdoorsman? No. I don't even know how you can powerbuild if you want a merc (and this merc will die at first shot in battle!). And having FA/Doc tagged will always be usefull, merc or not.

Well, I can already see leader+5 medic mercs surrounded by a team of pure-combat allies. But that's only my opinion :)
