A Suggestion about shotguns and radiation.
« on: January 25, 2010, 02:53:35 pm »

Hello!

1. It looks like shotgun and sawed-off shotgun have 2 barrels, it would be quite nice to make an option like a double shot from 2 shells ( single shot 4 ap - normal dmg as now, double 6 ap - doubled). Then weapon would be both, realistic and quite useful. Double shots should  deteriorate weapon faster then normal ones.

2. RadX and Radaway seem not to be useful right now, there should be radioactive places ( like gecko, mariposa, military base, gunners fortresse in boneyard, some barrels with sign of radioactivity), when you enter those places you get radiated ( radx would decrease the level of radiation your player absorbs, and rad-away takes it away in some amounts)

3. If we make boneyard fortress radiated , there can be placed a repeatable quest with delivery of rad-x/rad-away for people ( especially medic profession). I left reward  for this quest to Developers consideration.

Nice.

I think shotguns could do with either a range or a damage buff - probably both. I also think there's too big a jump between shotguns - there's the two basically identical regular shotguns, then we go all the way to the Combat Shotgun with its pretty hefty burst mode with no middle ground.

I vote one of the high end shotguns lose its burst ability and serves as a mid-range 'pump action' shotgun. I'd like it to be the Combat Shotgun, because the CAWS and Jackhammer look pretty crappy by comparison. I'd rather see more combat shotguns on my travels than that goddamn ugly CAWs.

Shotguns in fallout tactics rocked. They had this "cone" type of range which meant that they could hit multiple enemies.  They also dealth huge damage at close range. The tradeoff was you couldn't aim your shots. I modded my FOtactics shotguns so that they had increased hit- and knockout chance. Worked perfectly.

Based on evidence collected from various sources by trustworthy attendees it is undisputed veritability that the land ravaged by atomic warfare which caused extreme change of the ecosystem and environmental hazards can be considered unpleasant, rugged and unforgiving.

Goddamn, I totally forgot about that. They did work great in Tactics. In Fallout they worked exactly the same as rifles. Is there any way we can have shotguns function as burst weapons without them needing more than one shell per shot?

Aye, and in Fo1/Fo2/FO they only shot in a straight line, regardless of being on burst shot. If this is changed it would make shotguns more effective.

Maybe new types of ammunition? We could have:

- Solid bullets - Heavy AP damage, single target
- 12 Gauge - Little spray damage (cone type of range), still nice damage to single target
- 410 Gauge - Heavy spray damage pattern. No AP. Heavy knockback ability.
- Riot control rubber bullets - Almost no damage. Superior knockback ability. Single target. [cannot kill target maybe, so no damage if he is in negative hp]

Radiation is kinda a dead mechanic in 2238. Nobody will waste drugs if they can just die to get it off. And you usually don't live long enough for radiation to be a problem.

Radiation is only a problem when fighting aliens melee or hth. After about 2 fights you get crippled and die.

That´s why it has to be solved. Death cannot be the solution for crippled limbs, radiation etc. It spoils Doc profession in my opinion.

Crippled limbs are too much of a handicap to not disappear when you die. Walking one hex per click is a death sentence for any newly spawned player that doesn't have doctor skill.
