Entering the hub is a crime? Bug/Glitch?

So, I recently found out about this project and got excited.

Installed everything, registered, checked the wiki for advice and started playing (Mother of god, traveling's a bitch)...Once I arrived in the Hub, which I believe is quite near the newbie spawn, I was greeted with the message of having committed a crime. Confused, I kept walking and after getting around a bit in the Hub I got smacked by another newbie, the guards not protecting me because I had apparently done something wrong when I entered the hub.

I'm just assuming that's a glitch, though. But I also have another issue:

I noticed from reading the forums that this game's MP-aspect is brutal². And actually, I get the feeling that to get around in the game proper, you'd have to either know a few people or you're fucked real bad.

Could I at least get some advice about the best way to start? I read the wiki (Which does not quite state just how vicious FOnline is) and wanted to try crafting, only to find that it's very hard to get into it proper without receiving some massive ass-reaming by other players...Not to mention (again) I feel like my character has crippling agoraphobia and proceeds to crawl, face in the sand, across the wastelands.

I greatly appreciate advice about how to get started from people who are "in it", so to speak. After all, he wiki never mentions much about player habits that might make certain places safe/unsafe.

Some good tips:

Get caps from Shit Shoveling (near entrance) and save them in the bank.

Or try and get 10 Brahmin Hides so you can make a tent (makes things ALOT easier!), i hear there are some good spots around the Hub.

If someone is touching you, they could be healing you, or STEALING you. watch out.

Blue-suits with a SMG is something you might want to avoid. Most of them kill you if you have good items with you.

Turn-Based is a good idea if your starting out. it may take longer, but it's alot easier.

As for the 'bug', maybe you were there earlier? and if another newbie hit you, they KNOW  WHAT YOU DID >:(

Like I said, I JUST walked in there. It was my first time, admittedly not under this name. I instantly see the red message in the lower left about having committed a crime. I then walked around doing a few things recommended in the wiki, then suddenly I got randomly smacked by blue-suit with some sort of spear-like weapon. IIRC, the hit was critical, 51 damage and I died instantly.

Perhaps you came to the Hub, did something bad and he saw you/was a victim, you left, came back, he found you, he killed you.

Or it could just be a bug.
Iv'e died in town being unprotected, and had come back, to be still unprotected.

I did not start playing this game since yesterday evening, which was when it happened. I haven't been anywhere yet. Only the newbie spawn point and the Hub. What I just told you is what happened the very first time I went to The Hub and I haven't been playing since, because right after that I quit due to frustration.
