Stealing
« on: January 20, 2010, 12:53:16 pm »

I for one would like to know how stealing works nowadays, because it seems it changed since the time I last played.
How much steal skill do I need to not be noticed by guards, which attributes the skill check involves etc. Stealing used to be fun earlier and I hope it'll be as much fun now when I actually learn how to do it again.

Hi Nyan :3

The biggest problem with stealing is, that each time if you get caught your reputation will drop by -200 (or maybe -100, I don't remember). And with -1000 you will be shot on sight by guards as far as I know. Also there is no way to increase reputation for now... So I wouldn't try stealing from players in big towns with less than 250 stealing... There is some bonus for stealing at night AFAIK. You can find some places where reputation doesn't drop or where it doesn't matter and use it for training with NPCs.

But anyway, I suggest to make a test build and test everything yourself, especially the reputation thing, before you make a real character.

Life is easier for lockpickers these days, because you can steal cars on desert...

Lots of thing changed then. I know about reputation, I made a test character for that, and yes -1600 in NRC was enough to kill me every time I enter the city. Lockpicking better than stealing? Duh. Making 250 steal with outdoorsman will be difficult task

OK, last question to any of you guys. Is it possible to be so good at thievery so the guards never notice? I don't mean so you can steal everything, I just don't want to lose my karma

100% save is very unlikely.
