Speed up TBC
« on: January 11, 2011, 06:05:16 pm »

Hey everybody! I had an idea on improving Turn-Based PvE combat. I think the leader of a party should be able to adjust the combat speed-the speed at which NPC's take their turn-so you're not sitting there waiting for that mantis to tickle the nightkin before you blow him away with your LSW. This wouldn't make combat any easier, but more exciting. Right now turnbased encounters can drag on and on.

Let me know what you think!

PS: Read the rules, i think this post is okay?

In terms of implementation, I'm worried about balance. You don't want to give grues the ability to farm mobs and give themselves an unfair advantage in pvp.

You should have used ghouls as an example in tb, now that takes forever but then again its a problem with the animation (would be weird seeing sped up ghoul walking).

Otherwise i'm all for it but are you suggestion a reduction in the turn timer or critters acting faster in their turns?

A combination of both that would make tb combat fair and more enjoyable. Perhaps we can lower the total number of frames on that animation? edit it a bit?

half waiting time for critters/NPC enemies would help too (15-20 seconds)
Sometimes it's very pain to wait bugged critters in encounters.

Reduction of time for NPC's turn or at least speed-up for ghouls and something to solve NPC "freeze" problem are needed.

I think the only way to speed up critter walking speed in turnbased is to cut few frames from the animation, which would unfortunatly cause speed up in realtime too.

How about just making all the enemies moving at once?

U know:
Player 1 turn
Player 2 turn
Player 3 turn
Enemies turn (they act in realtime for 5-6 secs [but still need AP to perform actions])
Player 1 turn
Plater 2..

Just ban the TB at all. It is just legacy from singleplayer. And all fights will be fast enough.

NPC's could have pathing issues. Though it isnt a bad idea.

imo TB could be disabled

Just ban the TB at all. It is just legacy from singleplayer. And all fights will be fast enough.

It would make a newbies life even harder. And some encounters are just plain impossible in RT, simply because the AI has superior reactionspeed. Try fighting a 6-7 mauraders in RT. If you have a high level character with decent gear this is very possible. But with anything less you will get stomped. Remember that all AI's do not get confused, do not missclick, have aimbots and have the random number generator in their favor (Im talking about crits)
Besides that, it was a core mechanic in F1-2 and me and allot of other people still like Turn based.

You might say that the wasteland is harsh. Or that you should bring friends. Or that you simply should fight weaker things. The wasteland might be harsh. But a game needs to be fun aswell. Killing simply bugs and molerats isn't exactly fun (and for a level 1 newbie with a bad build even rats can pose a problem). It is plain grind. Bringing friends might not work out very well. Since you might suddenly meet 20 mauraders instead of 6, and unlike your friends. Those mauraders dont panic or get confused by the chaos that follows.

Instead lower the NPC turn time. (They don't have to think long about their actions either way) 5 to 10 seconds is enough. Second, speeding up certain critters in TB isn't a bad idea at all. Especially not when you cant see them.
And finnaly a thing about RT combat. When a NPC's decides to pull of an aimed shot on you. This should take half a second. as we players cant instantly eyeshot either.

TBC is a legacy from single player, yes. But if you get rid of it, then this is just another MMO. We might as well go play Gaia. This is fallout. If TBC is banned, i'll never play again.

youre completely right

and in FO1 there was a control to speed up the velocity of the NPC, dont you remember?, we only need to add this, and solve problem
