I liked it myself, nice job. Indeed it does look better without the skull, too.  The sprites are just too small and the skull was taking up too much space on an otherwise nice looking grill in my opinion.  Yes, the perspective looks a bit wrong but aside from that: nice job.

The perspective is still wrong. See this thread for more information on how to correctly render objects for Fallout. "Guessing" based on a hex template is bad. Always use a real camera setup for the correct orthographic projection.

OT: I wished there was this link around somewhere, when I was setting up lighting for models, because I spent like 2 hours searching NMA for that topic :<.
