Pip boy 2000 - a post-apocalyptic cellhpone!

People will run to get some energy for batteries ?
Creating some recharging stations in cities must be.
It should be for free if you have bad reputation you must pay caps to use it or it won't give you energy

Gunduz:
I'm still not sure how I feel about this, but let's assume I agree.

Pipboy itself should not have batteries. Extras, possibly.

Bluerad and camera I see no future for. Even if saving the pictures is just using clientside hdd space, sending them would (afaik) use server resources that would only contribute to lag. Plus, you can save screenshots and just email/skype/irc them to people.

I don't feel like the text editor should be extra. It's hard enough to communicate without using external tools, and this would only increase that.

Bonus memory unit could be replaced with storage space. This could hold small things only (keys, holodisks, etc.) and would stay upon death. The main purpose is to a) make owning a vehicle/locked container less of a nightmare and b) allow small quest items to be given and not lost.

Upgraded batter/sun charger, sure, if we decide the power thing is good.

Microphone and dialer seems unnecessary, especially if message coordinator is implemented. Radio upgrade is also a possibility here.

Geiger counter and motion sensor could also be turned into upgrades.

I actually like the flashlight, as long as the %tohit bonus applies to your attackers if you have it on. And as long as it works better than the flashlight in F3/NV.

I think each should be an upgrade, and pipboy should allow 3 or 4 upgrades.

All of this, I'm pretty sure, would require engine changes. But it's cool to think about some of these.

Eternauta:
I don't think this will ever be implemented... Or at least I hope this never gets to the game.

The Pip-boy was thought as a personal device, not an object for communication. The simple fact that they added a radio in Fallout 3 made go mad.

I think you can actually find certain terminals with e-mails in the original game (I am not entirely sure), but radio and television were still the most important mass media in (at least USA) pre-war society of the Fallout world. A device like the one you suggest belong to a different kind of society, this is, a society in which TV/Radio have already lost their former importance, and new communication technology has been developed.

5me0:
As if the worlds need more social networking.

Noway man :/

Graf:
I would like to see a music player upgrade for that thing  :) Just like it was in GTA3-4 series (put some mp3 files in a specified folder and change tracks during the  game).
