It's not necessarily explosion but smoke and bright light in the background.

As far i know, smoke and bright light is the usual result of an explosion. I might be wrong, but usually it goes that way.

It looks almost like a suit of armor, I do not know how to manage the move, in such a "solid" look. Damn good art, especially the first one (as I have at this moment, I myself HTH character, this is a good time wise.
