Well, this idea sounds good.
Furthermore this could be done by players (slaves, mercs and players arena fights). Even some gambling and betting on matches. You only need some players who would like to participate and some unguarded area. After all, my feeling from this suggestion is that you would need a lot of players(spectators) for this arena.

no not really... about ungaurded area player created...  pkers would ruin all the fun, pkers like me for example... I'd giv a bunch of slaves plasma nades and constantly hit and run for lolz.

Then there is a question why do you want the arena in the first place when only thing you want is to destroy it. But I understand your point that some people don't have enought brain capacity to leave other people to enjoy their doing. ::)

Maybe all we need is guarded town with unguarded openly accesible arena (brahmin pen). And anything inside the arena will be unguarded. Junktown has some kind of arena but it is not so much used now.

I hope I don't go too far from the main suggestion. :)

Well, critter (or number of critters) fighting against our slave could be random, i guess that even 5 slaves at time, could get really hard time fighting against adult deathclaw.
That way we would avoid getting free caps - sending slave to fight would be risky.

Slaver Snipe:
I find the idea of slaves fighting for players in a colosseum interesting, perhaps creating a tournament where slaves square off loser dies because its the fucking thunder dome bitch while the winner moves on to fight against another slave, i don't really think there should be a caps reward for winning but betting on the winners/losers would be nice.
