in-game mail system
« on: October 23, 2010, 07:06:50 pm »

Server needs to create in-game mail system wich helps to connect players to each other.

Now the only way to connect with the help of the radio, but when the player you need to send meseage to is ofline,  you need to use some forums , skape or others out-game message system, and this is harmful to Role plaing.

I think that you need to create some mailboxes (or mailstantion) at all sities (and bases) that can use any player to send to any other player any messeage or thin or else.

Agreed, irc is basically dynamic part of player communication but every self-respecting mmo game has built-in communications system.

Or you can just buy yourself some holodisks and write whatever you want to. Then leave it on some place where the other player can find it and read it. After all this seams more fallout style to me.

But I understand your suggestion to make communication more user-friendly. :)

This can be done with the help of placing at the teritory of tents spesial maibox, which is registered to the owner of the tent.

And this is mailbox which we can use only for getting the meseage or parcel, but we can send only from special mailstation that are placed at teritory of cities (whach cost, fo example, 100 caps)

Dammit you took the words right out of my mouth...

Yeah, we have radio's its the same thing but you need an item, but i would like to know the names, although I understand why you can't, surely you'd be able to tell if the person is someone you know by their voice?

Like someone you tagged red, their text would come in red, someone grey is white, someone green is green text.

If you can remember these people by apparent coloring on their names why not their voice on radio?

its must be a way to connect in game with person, that dose not now about that someone want to connect with him.

And leave meseage if pesron, what you looking is offline.

At now it is possible only by out-games weys (forumes, skupe, IRC) but Fallout if ROLE PLAING game, and how we can PLAING this ROLE if we need to use some spesial programs to plaing

Regular mail could be handled by barkeeps (for a fee)- use the "Say" function after selecting a dialog option for sending a message.
Need to increase the character limit.
Perhaps they could hold holodiscs or any Single item under 1 KG. (1)

There could be quests to get the mail working better, like telegraphs.
The telegraph offices would be in the train stations, all linked together.

I'm not sure mail delivery is Wasteland Feasible, but it would be funny to run into Postmen in the Wastes.
(Technically, you do: they are mutants!)

note:
IIRC there is a message function in the base terminals.

(1) this would open up the floodgates of people wanting Safe Deposit Boxes at banks, etc.
Perhaps if this was quest-unlockable and had small capacity (10 and 40 weight sizes, with weekly (in-game) rates of 100/500 caps,  monthly for 350/1750 caps.)
Also, triple the rent on rooms. (at least)

A really involved, intertwining set of quests could unlock telegraph/banking/storage access at train stations.

You have to get the train stations and do some quests at each one to build up a good rep with the rail system, also unlock safe deposit box access (even if none are available for use because they are already all taken) and do the "activate telegraph" quests. At this point you can buy a "wire account" and do wire transfers between banks as well as get access to Safe Deposit Boxes at the train stations (this is good because the ones in town will probably be all taken pretty early on).
Have to add some extra rooms/buildings, but this would allow people to experience progress of civilization by doing things that are productive for Law and Order.

I suggest messages on radio when offline (both you and your logged off friend have radio in hand - or use factions frequency)

it would be available by command like /r Nick, for example "/r Bob Where the hell are you?"

then a message appears telling that your friend is not online and that the message will be delivered as soon as the person logs on.

How would the system work "in world"? Shouldn't he have to check the faction terminal?
